Daiquiri

Today would have been Earnest Hemingway's 113th birthday, and in honor of the Old Man, I thought we should whip up some traditional daquiri's. I read a couple of articles about birthday celebrations and saw where La Floridita's was making a Giant Daquiri and setting a Guiness Book World Record. We will not be using the same batch recipe here, but I'm sure the proportions are quite similar.

Daquiri (La Floridita version)
1.5 oz light rum
1oz simple syrup
.75 oz fresh lime juice

Shake all ingredients with ice and strain into a small cocktail glass.

Banana Daiquiri

Banana Daiquiri

What a great treat and a nice variation on the original Daiquiri - Rum, Fresh Lime Juice, Simple Syrup. In this recipe we will be using half of a fresh banana.

1 1/2 oz white rum
1/2 oz banana liqueur
1 oz simple syrup
3/4 oz fresh lime juice
1/2 of a banana

Blend banana till you get a smooth consistency. Next add all ingredients with ice. Blend and pour into glass.

Raspberry Collins

This is a follow up recipe to the original Tom Collins post. When raspberries are in season and fresh, this can add a lot of flavor to the standard recipe.

Raspberry Collins:

In mixing glass combine:
4-5 fresh raspberries
1 1/2 oz Gin
Muddle contents
1 oz Simple Syrup
.75 oz fresh squeezed lemon juice

Add ice to Boston shaker
Combine shaker and mixing glass and shake 10-12 times
Strain into a fresh glass with fresh ice setup
Fill with Club Soda
Garnish with a 2-3 fresh raspberries on a stick

Tom Collins

This is the beginning of a journey through time discovering cocktails. I will be exploring recipes, the creators, and the legendary hangouts.

I will invoke a little Tony Abou-Ganim, Dale Degroff, Chris McMillain, Dave Wondrich, Ted Haigh, Robert Hess, Gary Regan, Jared Brown, Lowell Edmunds, Paul Clarke, Audrey Saunders, Phil Greene, Anistatia Miller, and Darcy O'Neil etc.

Tonight I begin the journey with a Tom Collins, and then follow it with a Raspberry Collins.

Here we go, recipe used:

In mixing glass combine:
1 oz Gin
1 oz Simple Syrup
.75 oz fresh squeezed lemon juice

Add ice to Boston shaker
Combine shaker and mixing glass and shake 10-12 times
Strain into a fresh glass with fresh ice setup
Fill with Club Soda
Garnish with a Flag (Orange slice & Maraschino cherry)

This is such a delicious cocktail - this is such a great summer cocktail.
